Storage is the easy part. Logistics is the value.
Warehousing is the storage of goods or materials before they’re shipped elsewhere or distributed. recent imports, shipments awaiting distribution, raw materials, finished product, anything in between. But the box a pallet sits in isn’t the point. The value is in what happens around it: receiving, staging, inventory management, and getting freight back into motion at the right time.
Because Carroll pairs warehousing with our own trucking, cartage, drayage and transloading, we can manage your goods from the moment the container is discharged at the terminal all the way to final delivery, under one roof, with one accountable operations contact.

What is Warehousing?
Warehousing is the storage of goods or materials, before they are shipped elsewhere or distributed. These storage facilities are commonly used to store recent imports, shipments awaiting distribution, raw materials, finished products, or anything in-between. The term “warehousing” typically encompasses receiving, storing, and distributing a business’s goods. Whether your business is looking for long-term or short-term storage, Carroll offers organized and reliable handling of your shipments.
What is Logistical Warehousing?
Some companies, like Carroll Trucking, also offer logistical services in combination with their warehouse operations. Logistics management allows our team to manage your business’s flow of goods or materials from start to finish. By utilizing our transloading , trucking, and cartage services in conjunction with warehousing, we can offer our clients trustworthy and stress-free supply-chain management. Using the same company throughout the entire shipping and distribution process helps to reduce lost or damaged shipments, and allows for thorough planning, reducing any inefficiencies.
What Are the Different Types of Warehouses?
1. Public Warehouses A public warehouse offers space that can be leased or rented to multiple businesses with short-term storage needs. Renting space to multiple businesses offers flexible pricing, which can be adjusted as a business’s needs change. Many small businesses opt to use shared, public warehouse space as a cost-saving measure. This is also a great option for new businesses and start-ups who may not yet be sure what their warehousing needs will be. Larger companies with private warehousing may also choose to utilize public warehouses for surplus or overflow storage. Some also use public warehousing to free up space in their own warehouses for reorganization or equipment upgrades. < 2. Private Warehouses Private warehouses are owned by private companies – often large retail corporations, e-commerce businesses, or manufacturers. Purchasing this amount of space requires a significant amount of upfront capital but can offer major savings long-term for businesses who can afford them. Private warehouses can often be found near a business’s manufacturing facilities, or in areas where they do a large amount of business. Private warehouses allow companies to prepare a large amount of stock for an upcoming busy season, or keep product readily available in areas where there is a high level of demand. 3. Contract Warehouses A contract warehouse manages the shipping, receiving, and storage of goods on a contract basis. A contract is agreed upon and signed, committing the business to renting a specific amount of space for the length of the contract. A long-term (multiple year) contract allows businesses to fix the cost of their warehousing needs for that amount of time. This setup offers an excellent solution for businesses with established warehousing needs, whereas businesses with constantly changing space requirements may find a shared, public warehouse will better meet their needs. Depending on the warehouse, a contract relationship may also offer accommodation of specific requests from the tenant of the space. Conditions outlined in the contract may include leasing the entire space (as opposed to sharing with another business), or allowing the renting business’s staff to manage the day-to-day warehouse operations. 4. Distribution Centers Distribution centers are built with the specific purpose of distributing large amounts of product to retailers. This warehousing option is utilized only for short-term storage needs. Depending on the type of product being distributed, a shipment may be at a distribution center for less than a day. These facilities are crucial to the supply chain – taking product that arrives in large amounts and distributing the shipments directly to the retailers in need of product.
